Welcome to My Nurse's Life, meet our team...
Our background...
After qualifying as a registered general nurse (RGN) in 1996, at Edge Hill University, having most of my training at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool. Postgrad., I worked in a variety of settings including elderly, medical, surgical and emergency care. Exploring the diverse working environments that nursing offers, I have also worked in forensic nursing, community and complex care, for both adults and children over the years.
Helen gained a 2.1 BA (Hons) in Modern English studies in 1999, at the University of Bedfordshire, and worked on weekly and daily newspapers, also joining a Press agency based in Liverpool Crown Court, to report crime to the national and local Press. She carried on working as a nurse and journalist simultaneously for several years, eventually choosing nursing as her primary profession, but remaining interested in writing. She managed work and motherhood having two boys in 2003 and 2006, with the help of her journalist husband Tim.
Undertaking a medical science diploma in 2012, coming out with a distinction, Helen rekindled her love for learning. Instead of a planned career change within the medical profession, she decided to combine her two skills of communication and nursing through training, by becoming a nurse assessor for two large nursing agencies. By 2014, with Tim’s support, she formed My Nurse’s Life and created a company that eventually in January 2017 exclusively specialised in training overseas nurses the OSCE, to join the UK NMC register.
Many trainers have since come into the company and helped her build the solid foundation of the company. The company now has approximately 20 trainers working alongside Helen in the UK and is currently mentoring more to help with new training projects both online and face to face.
Helen enjoys books, horse riding and looking after her 3 ponies and dog. She takes long walks by the sea in the evening to unwind and keep fit.
