We offer midwifery NMC OSCE training - the course is five days, it covers all the skills that you could encounter in the exam. We cover Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation as required of the midwife taking the exam. We have prepared videos for midwives to watch and additional information to read before they attend our training courses.

Clinical Skills

Skills that are individual to midwifery such as palpitation of the abdomen of the pregnant woman – inspect, fundal height measurement, lateral palpation, pelvic palpation and auscultation with a Pinards of the foetal heartbeat and taking a full set of vital signs from the pregnant woman and familiarisation of the Modified Early Obstetric Warning Score (MEOWS) and will be explained and demonstrated in the videos to meet the NMC‘s standards. All clinical skills will be covered whether old or new OSCE is being taken including Shoulder dystocia, Post-partum haemorrhage, Birth, Complex birth, Postnatal Care, Postnatal check and Systematic physical examination of the newborn.

We explore how to deal with Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation parts of the test, through scenarios that may include antenatal, postnatal or in the intrapartum phase of the mother, involving the needs of the neonate, mother and her partner throughout the patient’s journey. Silent stations are taught and practiced too, through the mediums of online and face to face training.

We will ensure there is a ratio of at least 1 to 5 of Trainer to pre-reg midwife to ensure they have adequate time to practice and be assessed and formal feedback given to the midwife candidate. There is a virtual training over 2 days included in the price, that can be joined, which can be arranged with the trainer.

Mock Test

On the last day of training, the nurses are tested on skills, and we can identify any that they still need to practice, and we can give advice on developing their skills. They are put through a mock exam of APIE, under exam conditions, and they will be given written feedback on this.
